Way Kambas National Park is representative of lowland forest ecosystems are composed of freshwater swamp forests, desert shrub alang-alang/semak, and coastal forests in Sumatra.

Way Kambas National Park has 50 species of mammals including Sumatran rhinoceros (sumatrensis sumatrensis Dicerorhinus), Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus), Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae), tapir (Tapirus indicus), jackal (Cuon alpinus sumatrensis), gibbon (Hylobates syndactylus syndactylus); 406 forest bird species including ducks (Cairina scutulata), yarn and clothing stork (Ciconia episcopus stormi), herons barrels (Leptoptilos javanicus), sempidan blue (Lophura ignita), pheasants (Argusianus argus argus), pecuk snake (Anhinga melanogaster); various types of reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects.
Wild elephants are trained at the Elephant Training Center (9 miles from the gate signpost Ijo) can be used as elephant riding, attractions, transport timber and plow the fields.
